John Harmer

Trained first at Worth College of Art and Design and then at Bournemouth and Poole of Art and Design.  He started out as a graphic designer but found it too restricting,  John’s

painting practice is concerned with the formal elements of his chosen medium: form, colour and texture and he particularly enjoy experimenting with textural effects in my work.

The depiction of landscape and architecture in art, cinema and television, provides the impetus and inspiration for his paintings. Recently he have been researching the use of matte painting in cinema, appropriating elements within his work. These found images establish a starting point for a piece. However, paint is a responsive medium and the completed painting may deviate from the original source, occasionally tending toward abstraction.

John has shown work at the Mall Galleries, Affordable Art Fair and in selected Open Art Competitions.
